Our advocates are fluent in healthcare jargon. They can act as oncology translators and make sure the member really understands every facet of their diagnosis, pathology reports, prognosis, treatment options, and the side effects associated with each treatment.
Everyone’s goals for care are different. A “good outcome” means something different to everyone. Our advocate can help the member articulate what’s most important to them, and ensure the care team knows what they do and do not want. This is their unique journey. MyCancerJourney makes sure the member has an active voice in every care decision along the way.
We are here to advocate for the member. We are treatment agnostic. Our goal is for the member to make the decisions are right for them.
Whether the member is newly diagnosed, in disease progression, or experiencing a recurrence, their MyCancerJourney advocate can help ensure their voice is heard and support them in true shared decision-making.
The goal of shared decision-making is to ensure care decisions consider your values, preferences, and circumstances, as well as clinical evidence, in conjunction with the healthcare provider’s knowledge and experience. The advocate ensures the member is fully informed and has a voice in their care throughout their journey.
The advocate can help direct members to specialists and specialized health centers in their area, and discuss if a center of excellence is right for them. They can help find a second opinion or with enrollment in a clinical trial, when necessary. Additionally, they can recommend functional medicine doctors, palliative care providers, and nutritionists to help manage and alleviate side effects.
The advocate can connect members to the services and resources they need, including financial, emotional, and social support. These may include medical financial counselors, specialized counselors or social workers, support groups, and nonprofits. Our advocates can also help members understand the insurance benefits available to them and direct them to the right person at their insurance company, streamlining the process and ensuring they can make the most of your coverage.
Cancer is emotional for both members and their loved ones. Sometimes the conversations with loved ones, friends, and coworkers can be the most difficult. Our advocates can help prepare and coach them through these conversations about their diagnosis, treatment goals, boundaries, and requests for support.
Our advocates are with members for the long haul. The advocate can help the member map this journey from beginning to end. Cancer changes everything. They can help them navigate their new normal and let them know what to expect going forward, be that returning to work and/or resuming other daily activities.
