The MyCancerJourney Difference

We are private advocates. While most healthcare systems, insurance companies, and nonprofits offer nurse navigators, care coordinators and advocates, our private advocates are different in that their responsibility is to you, rather than an institution. This means our advocates provide whole person support to meet your personalized needs. They are not time constrained. They can truly focus on you and dedicate the time needed to support your medical, emotional, financial, social and caregiver needs.

With MyCancerJourney, you are paired with a dedicated advocate who can ensure your voice is heard and your goals are respected throughout your care. While they don’t offer clinical advice, they do assist with everything from understanding your care plan to coordinating the practical aspects of daily life, like childcare, transportation, and other essential resources, so you can focus where you most need to.

All of our advocates are PACB-certified, have extensive oncology experience, and are supported by a diverse board of clinical experts. Plus, MyCancerJourney provides lifetime membership, supporting you through every stage of your cancer journey.

Here are some of the ways your advocate can help you:

Fully understand your diagnosis

Our advocates are fluent in healthcare jargon. They can act as oncology translators and make sure you really understand every facet of your diagnosis, pathology reports, prognosis, treatment options, and the side effects associated with each treatment.

Define and articulate your goals and preferences for care

Everyone’s goals for care are different. A “good outcome” means something different to everyone. Your advocate can help you articulate what’s most important to you, and ensure your care team knows what you do and do not want. This is your journey. MyCancerJourney makes sure you have an active voice in every care decision along the way.

We are here to advocate for YOU. We are treatment agnostic. Our goal is for you to make the decisions are right for you.

Make informed treatment decisions.

The goal of shared decision-making is to ensure care decisions consider your values, preferences, and circumstances, as well as clinical evidence, in conjunction with the healthcare provider’s knowledge and experience. Whether you are a newly diagnosed patient, in disease progression, or experiencing a recurrence, your MyCancerJourney advocate can help ensure your voice is heard and support you in true shared decision-making.

Find the best care and support

Your advocate can help direct you to specialists and specialized health centers in your area, and discuss if a center of excellence is right for you. They can help you find a second opinion or enroll in a clinical trial, when necessary. Additionally, they can recommend functional medicine doctors, palliative care providers, and nutritionists to help manage and alleviate your side effects.

Connect you with the resources you need

Your advocate can connect you to the services and resources you need, including financial, emotional, and social support. These may include medical financial counselors, specialized counselors or social workers, support groups, and nonprofits. Our advocates can also help you understand the insurance benefits available to you and direct you to the right person at your insurance company, streamlining the process and ensuring you can make the most of your coverage.

How to talk about your cancer

Cancer is emotional for both you and your loved ones. Sometimes the conversations with your loved ones, friends, and coworkers can be the most difficult. Your advocate can help you prepare and coach you through these conversations about your diagnosis, treatment goals, boundaries, and requests for support.

Craft a plan for the future

Our advocates are with you for the long haul. Your advocate can help you map this journey from beginning to end. Cancer changes everything. They can help you navigate your new normal and let you know what to expect going forward, be that returning to work and/or resuming other daily activities.
